Your Flinders Island Accommodation is an experience, not just a room.

Experience an indulgent retreat in one of Tasmania’s wild and untamed places.

At Flinders Island Gourmet Retreat at Cooma House (FIGR) you have found a hidden treasure in Tasmania.

A total experience, not just a room! Choosing to stay at Cooma House, you are offered an indulgent retreat in one of Tasmania’s wild and untamed places.

Stretch your legs along the paths down to the sea. Immerse yourself within our jewelled labyrinth or find a bush ‘chapel’.

Smell the beach and the salt-wet rocks. Feel the air move - and watch the eagles fly. Slow right down.

Your Room

You have 5 bespoke rooms to choose from, each with en-suites, original pieces of artwork art works and quality beds that you’ll have the best night sleep on.

Your room is private, snug and comfortable and you have a smart TV served by satellite. Your en-suite is bright and private. Enjoy our little reading nook, browse our library and sit in a chair together with a N’Espresso coffee.

Inside, we have two small meeting spaces; there’s a sheltered outside studio providing seaside views, a north facing courtyard for cafe or bbq and long tables with chairs on the eastern veranda.

THINGS TO DO

There are opportunities to see the Ramsar sites, or book scenic flights, play golf, charter fishing, bushwalking or history and other tours of the island.

It is easy to make round trips, starting from FIGR at Cooma House for sight-seeing or be part of the wild-ness, the adventure of the whole island, including the necklace of islands in the Franklin Sound.

You are wished many blessings during the time you are in attendance at FIGR at Cooma House - and ever after.

Cooma House cooking school

Cooking school

In my cooking experience I have worked with some of Australia’s leading chefs and developed my own approach. I offer a taste of Australia’s origins at my cooking schools as we have access to game. With our seasonal garden produce, we aim to give an authentic experience. I am influenced by a fusion of French and Asian cooking styles which have evolved into our uniquely Modern Australian cuisine. Go to the cooking school page.

Flinders Island events

Events & festivals

There are so many reasons to want to visit Flinders Island. The beaches, produce, the people, the fresh air, the walks, art and mountains. Learn about some of things to do when on Island.

Experience Flinders Island

There are walks through our private sculptured bush-land and the close by Strzelecki National Park. When the tide is out, at the bottom of the driveway, explore the petrified forest from millions of years ago, now found at the edge of the sea.  Come back and immerse your spiritual self in the labyrinth, shaped like a nautilus shell, or walk the beaches to find your own shells. Visit our world class Furneaux Museum for the stories of the first Anglo settlement south of Sydney and our First Australians.  Book a tour to see the Ramsar sites.  Have a game of golf on the most scenic 9 hole golf course or book a fishing tour through the necklace of islands surrounding you. Walk to the top of a mountain.  Feel the wind, see the clouds and watch them blow and shape their way across the sky. In the rainbow season, the colours wrap the world with smiles. Watch the sky darken as the mutton birds in their thousands circle home to their burrows at dusk.
